Archdiocese of Sydney
The Sydney Diocese is broken up into three regions: Eastern, Southern and Inner West. The Inner West Region runs from Sefton and Auburn in the outer western area of Sydney to Enmore and Glebe in the inner west, to Belmore and Punchbowl in southern Sydney and to Marsfield and Eastwood in northern Sydney. The traditional Aboriginal nations that cover this area are the Darug and Eora. The Eora nation being closer geographically to the city of Sydney and the Darug west of the Lane Cove River. The Darug clans or language groups represented in the Inner West Region are the : Wangal, Bediagal and Wallamuttagal peoples. The Eora clan or language group represented in the Inner West region is the Cadigal people.
The Southern region extends from the coast at Cronulla to Engadine in the south, to West Hoxton in the south west and into the Bankstown area. The traditional Aboriginal nations that cover this area are the Dharawal and Darug.
The Eastern Region extends from Oatley in the south and includes suburbs that are located along Port Jackson and Botany Bay including Hurstville and Kingsgrove. The most northern point of the region is North Sydney. This region includes areas in the Dharawal nation , and the Gadigal and Cammeraygal clan groups.
The Catholic Education Office Sydney is responsible for the leadership, efficient operation and management of 147 parish primary and regional secondary schools within the Archdiocese. There are more than 66,000 students enrolled in its schools. There are more than 850 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
There are also 18 independent Catholic schools, run by religious orders, catering for around 18,000 students.
