Diocese of Bathurst
Within the Catholic Diocese of Bathurst there are 2 Aboriginal countries.
Wiradjuri country is the largest in NSW and covers the majority of our Diocese and Gamilaraay/Gamilaroi (Coonabarabran, Baradine & Coonamble) country which is at the most northern tip.
The Wiradjuri people are known as the people of the three rivers: the Wambool (now known as the Macquarie River), the Kalari (the Lachlan River) and the Murrumbidjeri (the Murrumbidgee River).
Gamilaraay/Gamilaroi people are the people of the rivers, mountains & plains.
Our Diocese provides a diverse range of educational options, from primary schools in small rural communities to large secondary schools. Our schools provide high educational standards in an inclusive caring and stimulating environment.
More than 9,000 students, of which more than 500 are Aboriginal, attend 33 Catholic schools in the Diocese. In partnership with parents and parishes, our schools are committed to fostering Gospel values, academic excellence and life-long service in a faith-centred community.
